Sarah Joseph, phd

Sarah is an award-winning filmmaker with experience in a wide range of media for broadcast and digital distribution, including documentary films, brand/marketing content, educational courses, VR/360, and social media, from development through delivery. She has traveled the globe sharing stories from 3D-scanning a Sumatran rhino in Indonesia to uncovering mummies in Peru.

A lifelong animal-lover, Sarah decided to combine her passion for nature, travel, and storytelling into a career in wildlife filmmaking at an early age. After earning a BSc in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology from the University of California, Davis, and a PhD in Animal Behavior from the University of Queensland, Sarah moved to the D.C. area to begin a career at National Geographic in 2008.

As Director of Impact for the National Geographic Society's Impact Story Lab, Sarah helps lead the team’s impact strategy, social science research, and project evaluation. She is passionate about elevating diverse perspectives in media and creating a more inclusive industry through mentoring and training others.
